    Mike Modano Calls it Quits After 21 NHL Seasons

    For the first time in 22 years the NHL will start its regular season without Mike Modano in the lineup for one of its 30 teams. Modano, a star forward for the Minnesota/Dallas Stars franchise, decided to call it quits just after NHL training camps got underway. While Modano may not have been the most prolific scorer in history, he does leave the game as the highest-scoring American born player ever with a total of 1,374 points in 1,499 season games.     Joseph retires with 454 wins

    After 18 seasons in the National Hockey League, veteran goaltender Curtis Joseph has decided to call it quits. The 42 year old native of Keswick Ontario made the announcement while at Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Joseph originally broke into the NHL as an undrafted player with the St.Louis Blues in 1989, however he also played for several other NHL teams.

    Joseph also happens to have the NHL all-time record with the most loses, his 352 losses is the most in League history tied with Gump Worsley. The 51 recorded shutouts he got puts him 20th in all-time NHL shutouts.

    We all know that the most successful hockey team in the NationalHockey League is the Montreal Canadiens with twenty four Stanley Cup Championship wins. Infarct the Canadiens are also the second most successful sports franchise in the world next to only the New YorkYankees who have more Pro Championship wins. The interesting thing about Montreal compared to other teams who have won championships before, is that they are not always the best team during the season. More often then none the Canadiens will be a pretty good team but will never have the best record over all.

    Team Canada Junior captain suspended for nasty elbowing

    Patrice Cormier (Captain of the 2009 Team Canada Silver Medal Junior Team) was suspended indefinitely yesterday by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Monday following a nasty mid ice hit that sent Quebec Remparts defenceman Mikaël Tam to hospital. The league has reported that it will continue to investigate the elbowing incident, and would not say when its disciplinarian, Raymond Bolduc, would issue a ruling on the incident.
