Team Canada Junior captain suspended for nasty elbowing

Patrice Cormier (Captain of the 2009 Team Canada Silver Medal Junior Team) was suspended indefinitely yesterday by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Monday following a nasty mid ice hit that sent Quebec Remparts defenceman Mikaël Tam to hospital. The league has reported that it will continue to investigate the elbowing incident, and would not say when its disciplinarian, Raymond Bolduc, would issue a ruling on the incident.

Video footage of the incident shows Patrice coming on to the ice from the bench and skating towards Tam, whom started to rush from behind his goal up the ice. Cormier then caught him with in the trolley tarjks with his elbow near centre ice, dropping him instantly.

Repeat offender? Cormier is well known to be a physical player with good and bad major hits. He connected with Sweden’s Anton Rodin in a similar elbow to the mouth during the world juniors tournament month. He was drafted by New Jersey in 2008 and has since signed a three-year entry level contract with the Devils — maybe a good replacement for the Former Devils Scott Stevens!!
